Success and Support

Campus Spaces

Intercultural House

Students can check out the key by reaching out to intercultural@lakeforest.edu. I-House is a welcoming and collective space in South Campus where students can hang out, it has a fully functioning kitchen, TV, comfortable seating, and dining area in addition to a gender neutral bathroom. Student groups are welcome to reserve this space for small events.

The Interfaith Reflection Room

Located in the Mohr Student Commons, the Interfaith Reflection Room welcomes all students, faculty, and staff to practice their faith or take some time to reflect in a private environment. Our goal is to accomodate the spiritual needs of students, both religious and secular, by
providing a quiet space for prayer, meditation, and/or reflection.

Read more about the Rules of Use behind this collaborative space here.

Rosemary House

In addition to hosting the OIR staff offices, students are can reserve the Rosemary House Basement for events and gatherings using the Ad Astra Room reservation process.

Programs

First Connection Pre-orientation Program

Learn more about our pre-orientation program ! Students who identify as Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Undocumented, International, LGBTQ+, Pell-eligible and First Generation as well as allies are especially encouraged to apply.

Forester First Parent Orientation

Intended for parents of First Generation students (students whose parents or caretakers did not attend College or University in the U.S.), this session during New Student Orientation will introduce parents to representatives from various campus offices like Financial Aid, Dean of Faculty, and Student Affairs. The goal is to introduce families to campus academic programs and resources, student services, and provide an overview of the college calendar and what to expect in the first year.

DEIB Fellows Internship

OIR hosts one to two students a year as part of the OIR Fellows Internship program. This position provides an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience and contribute to our mission of supporting DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging) initiatives on campus. The selected candidate(s) will work closely with the department director and staff, assisting with data collection and analysis, and supporting the implementation of OIR’s strategic pathways. Check our page for more info, the position is usually posted in August and applications close August 31st.

BRIDGE Training Program

The goal of the BRIDGE (Building Relationships in Diversity, Generating Equity) is to engage Lake Forest College students, faculty, and staff in DEI-focused workshops to foster greater feelings of safety, inclusion, belonging, and advocacy self-efficacy. The program consists of a series of workshops designed to increase attendee's familiarity and allyship potential along 5 different topics: Intersectionality, Disability, Race & Ethnicity, LGBTQ+, and Undocumented Students.

The series is offered as a one-time, full-day (all modules in one day) or as individual workshops (5 modules in one month). Please note you must complete all five modules to receive the BRIDGE Series Certificate of Completion.
Empowerment Groups

The Office of Intercultural Relations is home to different Empowerment Groups which are identity-based student groups for students with historically marginalized backgrounds in higher education. Membership and participation in the groups is restricted to students who hold the respective identities—differentiating them from Student Organizations.

The empowerment groups operate independently of each other, with occasional collaboration. Each group has access to a set amount of funds they can request for student-organized events. Groups select a student president, treasurer, and a faculty or staff advisor at the beginning of the academic year.

List of Current Empowerment Groups

  • Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander (AAAPI)
  • Black Men's Group (BMG)
  • Black Women United (BWU)
  • Juntos
  • Native American and Indigenous Group (NAIS)
  • Neurodivergent Social Hour
  • UNIDAS
  • The Rainbow Network (LGBTQ+)
  • Trans Social Hour
  • Undocumented Students (US)
