Physical Education Classes

The classes are pass/fail and not for credit, and most are tuition-free. Students can enroll in any of the courses listed below at the  Registrar’s Office.

PHYE 110: Lifeguarding: Taught by Andrew Lind (alind@lakeforest.edu)

This course meets by arrangement during the spring semester. Upon completion, the student earns three American Red Cross Certifications: Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer. There is a minimum of three and a limit of ten in the class. There is a pre-swim test. The class meets in the pool.

PHYE 113: Beginning Skating : Taught by Amy Budde (abudde@lakeforest.edu)

This course meets the second eight weeks of the spring semester. It meets in the ice rink. Students must have their own ice skates for the class.

PHYE 114: Beginning Tennis : Taught by Scot Reinhart (reinhart@lakeforest.edu)

This course runs the second eight weeks of the fall semester, or the first eight weeks of the spring semester. The class meets at the Sports and Recreation Center.

PHYE 116: Beginning Racquetball : Taught by Mike Gilboe (gilboe@lakeforest.edu)

This course runs the second eight weeks of the fall semester. The class meets in the Sports and Recreation Center.

PHYE 117: Beginning Golf : Taught by Brian Bruha ’02 (bruha@lakeforest.edu) and Tamlyn Tills (tills@lakeforest.edu)

This course meets the second eight weeks of each semester. It meets in the Sports and Recreation Center. Students must have their own golf clubs for the class. Brian Bruha teaches the fall semester. Tamlyn Tills teaches the spring semester.

PHYE 118: Beginning Swimming : Taught by Andrew Lind (alind@lakeforest.edu)

This course runs the first eight weeks of the fall semester. The class meets at the pool in the Sports and Recreation Center.

PHYE 124: Red Cross CPR/First Aid : Taught by Mike Gilboe (gilboe@lakeforest.edu)

This course meets by arrangement. Upon completion the student earns certification in American Red Cross CPR and First Aid. This class is limited to ten. It meets in the Sports and Recreation Center. A fee is associated with the class for your certification card.

PHYE 126: Concepts of Health Education : Taught by Mike Gilboe (gilboe@lakeforest.edu) and Tam Tills (tills@lakeforest.edu)

This course is taught in conjunction with the Department of Education. The course’s primary objective is to teach elementary education majors the Illinois Board of Education Knowledge Indicators in the realm of Physical Education. This is a requirement for receiving an elementary education teaching license in Illinois. All elementary education majors must take this class. The class is limited to 20 students. There is a fee for copies of materials and for CPR/FA certification.                          

PHYE 130: Advanced Strength & Conditioning : Taught by Justin McClure (jmcclure@lakeforest.edu)

This course meets for the first 8 weeks in both the fall and spring semester. It emphasizes cardiovascular conditioning and free weight training for better health. It meets in the Sports and Recreation Center.

PHYE 131: Beginning Strength & Conditioning : Taught by Justin McClure (jmcclure@lakeforest.edu)

This course meets by appointment. It emphasizes cardiovascular conditioning and free weight training for better health. It is geared for those who do not have much experience with exercise. It meets in the Sports and Recreation Center.
