Gender and Sexual Orientation

Every student on campus is entitled to their internal perception of their own gender and pronouns. The Office of Title IX does not tolerate any sort of biases or harassment towards a person based on their gender or sexual orientation. This page references, gender identity, sexual orientation, transgender, and other rights.

91¿´Æ¬Íø’s Sexual Misconduct Policy applies to each and every person on campus, regardless of sex or gender identity, and it specifically prohibits gender-based harassment. Below are some examples of the aforementioned.

If you have a question about your rights and options, contact titleix@lakeforest.edu. If your rights have been violated or you would like to file a grievance, you may file a report .

Transgender and Gender Nonconforming Students’ Rights

When a student or employee notifies the College that the student or employee’s gender identity is different from previous representations or records, the College will begin treating that individual consistent with the individual’s gender identity. To that end, the College will use pronouns and names as requested by the transgender individual in person and in student and employment records going forward. Requests to amend previously existing student or employment records will be handled pursuant to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act and/or other relevant law and consistent with record amendment requests made by all other students and employees. Moreover, transgender individuals will be permitted access to sex segregated facilities (such as bathrooms, residence halls and/or locker rooms) consistent with their gender identity. Transgender students may participate in the College’s single sex NCAA athletics programs as set forth in the NCAA guidelines regarding the same. Transgender students may participate in the College’s single sex non-NCAA athletics programs consistent with their gender identity.

The Title IX Office is here to help and support you. The revocation of the federal guidance does not change 91¿´Æ¬Íø’s approach to supporting equal access to educational opportunities and benefits to all members of the 91¿´Æ¬Íø community.

This means you are entitled to equal and fair access and treatment in all places, like, for instance:

  • athletic facilities
  • classrooms
  • residence halls
  • social events; etc.

Transgender students who feel they have experienced concerning treatment because of their gender identity should consider working with the Title IX Office for:

  • Access to available resources and support mechanisms
  • Access to information regarding available methods of redress, like our on-campus sexual misconduct adjudication process and/or working with local law enforcement

Victims/survivors who choose to work with the Title IX Office have many options. The Title IX Office listens and tries to support the agency of all victims/survivors.
