Learning about her heritage

Deja McClennan ’20 majored in African American studies at 91¿´Æ¬Íø to serve her community better.

"I chose to major in African American studies because I yearned to learn more about my heritage that I had been deprived of during my formative years," McClennan said.

"African American Studies allows me to have an understanding of present economic, social, and political conditions, while providing me with the tools to see the world through various lenses."

In addition, the interdisciplinary aspect of the major "supplies me with the knowledge to analyze different viewpoints of African Americans and become empowered to serve my community better."
