What to Expect at Your Tutoring Appointment

You can always expect a welcoming and comfortable environment with a highly trained peer tutor

Before:

SRC tutoring sessions are built around your needs! That means the better prepared you are, the better supported you will be. Bring anything that you think will be helpful for the session and, prior to the session, write down any questions or specific concepts you would like to discuss.

What to bring:

  • Lecture/class notes
  • Textbook
  • Assignments/quizzes/exams (after they are completed)
  • Study guides
  • Notebook and pencil
  • Questions and specific concepts you would like to review

During:

Sessions are approximately 50 minutes long and are either one-on-one or paired tutoring sessions (see Make an Appointment for more details). Tutors will cover any material and/or questions that you may have regarding the course within the allotted time. Please note that tutors are not expected to provide answers to every question, but rather should be able to help you understand the material better and direct you to more resources if need be.

After:

At the end of each session, the tutor will briefly review the material and give you a set of next steps to work on. These next steps could include reading the textbook, finishing homework, creating a study guide, or making an appointment with the course instructor, among other things.
